SHIELD OF PRAYER
The Shield of Prayer was founded in 1969 by a group of Christians concerned over the
condition of their community. Unlike most prayer groups we spent many hours discussing just what our prayers were going to
be about. We felt very strongly about being in agreement.
There were several things that we learned through
our discussions. First: We learned that it was almost impossible to agree, based on our human thinking. We had to search the
Scriptures and find a solid foundation on which to lay our prayers. What we found was that we had to rely on God’s word
which tells us, Rom 8:28
28 And we know that
all things work together for
good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (KJV) (Emphasis added)
Second: We were in
no position to try to tell God what was best for our communities. We had to leave the decisions in His hands as to what He
had planned for us. Third: We had to be willing to let whatever changes were necessary begin with us. We had to believe in
our hearts that no matter what the circumstances appeared to be we had to trust in God and His promises. Fourth: We had to
constantly seek God’s guidance on the direction our prayers would take.
It has only been recently that we have been guided
into expanding our group to become nation wide, to seek a shield of prayer over the entire nation rather then just our particular
communities. We realized we would have even greater difficulties getting a vast number of people to meet the standards set
for ourselves then we had reaching the agreement on the standards ourselves.
It was at this time that we were lead to read
2 Chronicles 7:14. We realized that this was God’s answer and this was God’s plan for healing our nation. I readily
admit we had our doubts about being able to interest our fellow Christians in healing our nation when there is so much preaching
going on about the end of times and being given the impression that it is too late to do anything about it. We were reminded
of God’s word, Isa 55:11
11 So shall my word
be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it
shall not return unto me void, but
it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (KJV) (Emphasis
added)
The Shield of Prayer members have taken the step
of opening this web site and sending God’s word from 2 Chronicles 7:14 out onto the internet. We are leaving the site
in God’s hands to bring about whatever He wants to do with it. We know that it will achieve what He wants it to achieve.
